Sacred Rhythm
A shaman is a spiritual healer or guide who acts as a bridge between the physical world and the spiritual world. Shamanism is more commonly associated with indigenous cultures, particularly in Siberia, Central Asia and the Americans. Shamanism is not a religion but a spiritual tradition deeply rooted in nature and ancestral wisdom.Today, shamanism has influenced contemporary spiritual movements that are focused on creation care, healing and self-discovery.
During a recent pilgrimage to New Mexico I encountered petroglyphs dating back hundreds of years depicting shamans. The rough images engraved on rocks featured an "H" shape, animal heads, uplifted hands and sometimes adornments. I was captivated by the prevalence of these shamans throughout the national parks I visited and the hunger of the human spirit they displayed.
Each sculpture is made of a wire armature in an "H" shape, polymer clay, recycled materials and natural elements such as shells and stone from Iona Scotland. These one of a kind works of art are approximately 9-12 inches tall.
